Would you buy a capsule to help you save money on gas?

Put it in your gas tank at every fill up
It increases your MPG 7-14%
Reduces emissions 75%
Registered with EPA
Used by Nasa for 30 years
$20.95 for 10 capsules; 9 tank fill-up (major savings)

Here’s a link to help you understand http://loproducts.mpgproduct.com/underst…

Just curious.

scam alert….

get a new air filter, change your plugs/wires, and forget the scam products…

If the capsules cost less than the gas they save, then yes, of course, everybody would buy them.

Go ahead and do the experiment and let us all know.

It's a scam. Don't waste your money.

Think of it this way – if this really worked, don't you think that the major auto companies would be all over it? Good gas mileage has been a huge feature on cars for the last 30 years. The companies have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in engineering, research, and development to gain just a few extra miles per gallon. If something like this actually worked, you'd see them as an accessory in every dealership in the country, and each new car would come with a case of the stuff in the trunk.

But that ain't happening, is it? Why do you suppose that is?

I have some ocean front beach property I'll sell you in Arizona. This is a scam.

How can we save money on gas and oil these days?

It seems that gas prices go up and down all the time. Sometimes, it limits what we do. Is there a way to save money?

walk, if you must drive, buy a small compact car, maybe a prius……

Gas and oil are never going to be a cheaper then they are….

Plan ahead. Make the trips in car more efficient by doing more when you're out, rather than driving to the store, school, the movies, etc all separately. Try to choose less busy times of the day, so you're not stuck in traffic. Of course, don't drive if you don't have to!!

Keep your car in good working order. Tuneups, proper tire inflation, better quality gasoline can all increase gas mileage. So can cruise control on longer trips.

Get a card that gives you rewards for gasoline purchases. Shell has a card that gives you a percentage of your gasoline purchases back, so you end up paying less for the gasoline. Just remember to pay off the balance every month!!

Watch your driving habits. Don't smash the accelerator as soon as the light changes. Smooth and steady saves gas. If you know you're going to have to stop up ahead, let the car coast rather than applying the brake at the last second. You used gas to build up that speed, if you brake hard, you wasted it.

Don't carry lots of junk around in your car. It takes energy to move weight and the more you have in your car, the more energy it takes to move it. Keep some emergency gear in there, but don't carry books, sports equipment and similar stuff every day. You'd be surprised how much that helps.

Whenever you see prices drop, buy as much gas as you can. This way, if it goes up again, you've saved a little money. If it goes down, fill up again, even if it only takes a few gallons. This way you're getting as much cheap gas as possible.

Hope these tips help!

I'm gonna be short and sweet about it: Drive less and slow down.

If you are going to be doing a lot of highway driving, get a small car, but not a hybrid. (Hybrids often get worse fuel mileage than some SUV's on the freeway)

one word commute with co-workers and less driving

Looking for the best car finance calculator? Check out our articles on all types of auto and financial topics.

Is There such a Thing as a good Fuel Additive?

For a few years now there have been solutions out there which can allow you to get more out of the fuel that you are currently utilizing. Many of you have heard these products called gas additives, diesel additives, or even by the common phrase fuel additives. Truth be told there are also products like detergents as well as others that have been seen in the marketplace as well.

But with so many items, how do you know if they actually are worth anything? all of us hear about the crazy claims that some of these kinds of items make such as “Enhance Gas Mileage 90%” and so on. A lot of us have frequently heard the saying “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” and have applied a general label to these additive products that they are also too good to be true.

The fact is that you can find fuel additives (both gasoline and diesel) that you can buy that deliver. The challenge is that the label has been applied so heavily that many people are just not willing to give them a try. I remember seeing an article once that said why fuel additives don’t do the job. did they back the assertion up with facts? No. The very best point they could make was along the lines of, “Don’t you think the oil and gas companies would already be doing everything they could to make a better product?” certainly not a very good defense .

What Should You Look For?

Before you just get a fuel additive out there, be certain that there is also information and paperwork to back it up. Do they really have test data by a third party source so that it is fair? Have they been proven numerous times as well as in diverse conditions? If they have and the data looks promising, you have come across a product that will truly accomplish what they state – save you some money on gas.

Obama just told us how we will save money with the new gas /electric cars do you buy all this ?

We have already been told the new energy bill that is in the works now will cause our energy prices to sky rocket, so you will save money on gas, but how much more will it cost you on your energy bill to plug your car in everyday ? these cars are not money saving for people who drive over 30 to 50 miles each way to work, the batteries don't last that long. I live in a rural area and plug them in won't be a big problem at home for us, but what about all the people in the city where they have to park on the streets or have to buy a parking spot, that cost will most certainly be passed on to you ! So isn't it robbing Peter to pay Paul !

In a hybrid, gas power takes over when the battery gets low. Yes, I do buy this. Increased fuel efficiency saves you money.

I have saved a TON of money especially last summer.

I just filled my 10 gallon tank with $22.19 dollars and my gas mileage is between 46 and 56 mi/gallon depending on how I drive it and outside temperature.

I have had this car for 6 and a half years

well, what was conveniently left out was how much pollution and energy is used to build and ship the cars, tax per mile to make up the loss of gas tax revenue, how much energy it takes to charge an electric car if cap and trade finds a way to succeed, disposal of the older vehicles in junk yards, the fact that saving a couple hundred dollars a year in gas is completely offset by the car payment of owning a new vehicle… so no… i don't buy it. he's trying to encourage people to spend money instead of save. it's what he's been pushing since things went south. instead of drill baby drill, it's spend daddy spend.

i'm not saying there's a problem with that, if you have the money and can spend it… want to spend it… then you totally should. but the 'greenest' and 'cheapest' solution is to keep your car working longer and buy only when you have to.

I have saved quite a bit of money since purchasing my high mileage hybrid several years ago.

It will indeed save money, and as electricity is increasingly created from renewable sources, the savings will increase.

Let me put it this way: I trust this plan like I have trusted all previous decisions made by his administration pertaining to the auto industry. Interpret that however you will.
Peace

Do you really think this government will give up the lose of the tax on gas. You will not save a dime. The gas tax will be increased to make up the difference and you still have to pay more for the car. How stupid are we as a people.

Simple.
Crank up the taxes on gasoline high enough and you will save those tax dollars every time you save a gallon of gasoline.
It will only take about ten dollars of new taxes per gallon to make you beg for more efficient cars.

It's ridiculous. First of all, I don't want a tiny lighter vehicle that is not safe. I'll just put this on my tombstone after getting run over while driving my smart car: "I lowered my carbon footprint and saved money. I showed them."

Smart cars are stupid: http://www.gulker.com/blog/wp-content/20…

They take premium gas only as well.

I would really appreciate a link about the energy prices .
I live in a fairly rural part of my state in a medium size town. But I also grew up and have lived in the mountainous South West where every thing is usually miles away. I think plug in cars would be great for town or the city and eventually Technology will catch up and hybrids will become cheaper and more available . And we will be able to drive further and cheaper then ever before .
I do NOT understand why Republicans ( not all ) oppose cheaper cleaner energy. It would be a God send . And a very positive Quantum Leap for our society . Green energy is using what God has given us freely in a non toxic way like the use of oil and gas products are so toxic.

Obama is proposing that all cars get at least 35mpg by 2012. Most cars already do get this kind of mileage or better. The automakers are on board with this proposal. In the eighties when Detroit said that they could not meet emission standards without raising the price of cars they were proven wrong by Toyota, Nissan, and Honda. Today, Detroit car makers are nearly bankrupt because of this huge mistake. For some people, battery operated cars may be worthwhile. No one will be forced to drive them. Being dependent on foreign oil has got to go. Cleaning up pollution is also costly. Global warming is real and it makes sense to cut down on carbon emissions.

You would have to be high on hopium to believe this one.
Or President also said $4.00 per gallon of gas is okay, so long as it is not sprung on those plebes (us) all at once. I paraphrased there a little…
But you don't think we will save anything do you?
Watch for a new gas tax each spring when the effects of the freeze thaw (potholes and spalling) in the norther states are visible on the highways.

No his lips are moving so he is lying. He has practually nationalized the auto industry, Americans will not go for those death traps , and thast what they are. I own a towing company and I can tell you they do not hold up in a crash. I would never allow my family in one of those mini cars. The costs will be infalted and contrary to his retorich you will not save money, if he is so concerned about saving he ought to curb sepnding

Obama just told us how we will save money with the new gas /electric cars do you buy all this ?

Save money on Gas by Slowing down??????

I have heard too many answes about slowing down to save money on gas, cars give you less mileage per gallon in city than high way, I have MDX Acura, it gives me 18 miles in City and 22 Highway, How can slowing down will save me money then since we drive slow in city and fast on
highway? do they mean slow down on highway?

yes… means on highway. closest to 55 is best. most people drive 70 to 80 on highway here.

Many people feel 60 mph is best & I have to agree. Also, no sudden accelerations from a dead stop.

40 mph on cruise control is the best mpg you are going to get

Good question.
Driving in the city, start stop start stop, is very bad for fuel economy. That's why city mileage isn't very good.

The best economy happens when you can be in continuous cruise, like on the freeway. What speed is best, then? It varies a little, but most cars will get their best speed around 45-55 mph (give or take). Slower and the car isn't efficient, faster and aerodynamic drag increases a lot, and you end up spending a lot of fuel to push air out of the way.

You just have to experiment.

Living Rich for Less: The Family Road Trip

Living Rich for Less: The Family Road Trip

This week on ABC NEWS NOW, I talked about how to take a Family Road trip that won’t traumatize your children! I remember my dad stuffing us kids in the back of a VW bug and traveling from TX to IN, making about 600 miles per day. Need I say more?

Here are some ideas that will make your family trip a lot more fun and affordable.

Q. First of all, let’s look at a question that many families are asking: is it cheaper to take that long family road trip, or is it more cost effective to fly?

ELLIE: It’s all in the numbers including how far you have to travel, how many family members and how many nights on the road. It’s going to be pretty easy for you to calculate the bottom line for flying versus driving. Just go to costToDrive.com to calculate the mileage, gas, travel time and carbon footprint of anywhere in the US. You’ll also need to go to hotels.com to add that expense to your total. Then, go to bookingbuddy.com to find the best price on airfare. This site will compare the prices from other travel sites such as expedia, orbitz, Travelocity, cheaptickets and more. Don’t forget the rental car if you’re flying, you can research that on hotwire.com .

Q. One of the greatest expenses while traveling down the highway is for snacks, lunch and dinner. It can not only get pricey, but these purchases can also take a toll on health as there seems to be an emphasis on eating fast food while on the road. Do you have any ideas on other options?

ELLIE: If your children are little, the stops you make on the road are essential for them to be able to get out and stretch their legs—adults need that, too. When our kids were little, we packed a lunch for the first day on the road and stopped at roadside parks. It’s easy to plan these stops with the assistance of your GPS or your smartphone, just locate a parks along the way and plan accordingly. To save money on snacks, pack some healthy options in individual bags for each family member and include options such as carrots, grapes, cherries, pretzels or trail mix.

Q. One of the tips you share is to set realistic expectations. So how long can you realistically expect to travel in a car with a three year old?

ELLIE: I think that you shouldn’t try to conquer more than 300 miles a day with a preschooler, because they’ll arrive tired and cranky at your destination AND SO WILL YOU! You need to know your child(ren) and adjust your expectations accordingly. Are you one of those blessed families whose kids sleep as soon as you get in the car? Then you can probably handle a few more miles a day. Does any of your family members have health issues that require frequent stops, then add some extra time to your trip so you aren’t stressed. Setting realistic expectations will help you and your family have a better trip.

Q. Another challenge for families is keeping the kids occupied. Older children can use their Ipods to stay busy and everyone enjoys movies on the way. But even these options can lead to the inevitable boredom as kids start to get restless. You’re a mother of many, what do you suggest?

ELLIE: I think this is where creativity comes into play. When our kids were all school aged and we had a long trip (or a military move), I shop ahead of time for small games, books, activity puzzles, little toys and other trinkets I knew they would like. Then I’d wrap these “surprises” in gift paper and put each child’s name on it. At the top of every hour, if they were good on the road, we would give them their individual present. Sometimes, a grouchy child wouldn’t get his because he wasn’t co-operating. He’d watch his siblings playing with their gifts and it would motivate him to behave. I also think that an adult should be in charge of not only disbursing the surprises, but also handing out the individual snacks at certain times as well. You can give them out at certain mile markers that the kids can look for and it becomes an effective way of passing the time.
This is also the time to develop your own traditions. My older kids liked creating Mad Libs and played slug bug or I Spy. But our younger kids developed a game called, “Name that movie line” which became a tradition in our family. We still play it when we get together and find it creates family bonding moments and is a unique Kay Family Tradition.

Q. How do you feel about souvenirs? Do you think that saving money means you just say “no” to the t-shirts, coffee mugs, statues and commemorative books?

ELLIE: I think that souvenirs are an important part of any vacation time but it’s also important to not overspend on these category. We give our kids a budget for souvenirs and let them choose. We also encourage them to pick things that are of a better quality and yet inexpensive such as spoons, shot glasses, or magnets.

Q. What if you haven’t taken a vacation yet and don’t know if you can afford it. Do you have any creative ways to save money on a place to stay on the family road trip?

ELLIE: If you have friends that you like a lot and think your friendship can survive the test of a family road trip and vacation, then double up with that family and cut your bills in half. For example, the normal price of a week-long mountain cabin rental with three bedrooms in Manitou Springs, CO was $900. If each family pays $450 instead of the full price, they may be able to afford a vacation that might not have been available to them otherwise. You can go to vrbo.com or www.findrental.com. Suite hotels that offer extra rooms are also an option such as the ones found at orbitz.com or cheaphotels.com. For those who love the great outdoors, sharing campsite fees or RV rentals can split the price of a camping adventure. At RVRental.com we found rentals across the country that ranged from $117/day to $385 per day. Depending on the owner of the RV, other charges to consider are hospitality kits, kitchen kits, and/or emergency road kits. Cleaning fees will apply if the RV is not returned in the condition in which it was rented.

Q. What about saving money on food and entertainment once you get to your destination?

ELLIE: I recommend you go to entertaimnent.com and enter the zip code of where you’ll be traveling in order to preview their entertainment books for that destination. These are currently on sale and you can find discounts on food, movie tickets, amusement parks, hotels and much more. Also go to restaurant.com and enter the zip code to get gift certificates for half price and while you’re there, see if they have any sales. I recently bought $25 gift certificates at that site for only $2. Plus, use your smartphone by entering the attraction’s name to see if there are any coupons or codes you can download on your phone and use on the spot.

Enjoy your Family Road Trip!

Tips on saving or making money?

What are some good sites – or possibly some good, affordable books – that would give one basic, easy, advice and strategies for your average person looking to save money, and perhaps invest a little? I want a source that's not going to give me tons of ads, or try to sell me products, or try to convince me to invest money into products or services.

I can't tell you that but below is what I have done to save thousands and it works:

The biggest ways you can do this are in expense categories that are recurring–those you must pay every month that represent a big part of your income. The quickest to address are downsize your car expenses ASAP. You can do this by selling what have at top price as listed on KBB.com private party value. If you take your time selling you should be able to get "Private Party" value for your car. Then plan to buy a lower cost, reliable used car that Consumer Reports rates as most reliable. That way you can minize your repair costs–this is typically a huge ongoing expense for most people. I have four older cars that are of these types that Consumer Reports recommends most reliable: Honda civic and Odyssey, Ford escort and Suburu (mine has 284,000 miles on it). Also, these cars get good gas mileage. Another priority when you buy to help you save $. When you buy use KBB.com and try to find cars selling for well under the Private Party value. I always buy well used cars this way. I wait until I see one advertised well below the private party value, then I call asap, give seller a $50 deposit and write up a contract I will buy it subject to my mechanic finding no major problems. You want to buy an older car for cash (like $1,500) so you don't have to pay any collission or other extra insurance and that reduces your expenses more. I have a Ford Escort wagon (I like wagons and vans because cops pull you over less on these family cars–we have way too many cops, not that I get tickets. But I just like to be left alone, I digress . . .) I bought my Ford Escort wagon for $1,500 five years ago and it has 180,000, miles and looks great, drives like a dream and has had the lowest repair cost of any car I owned. That is my dream car because you can buy them so cheap, about 1,000 for a 1993 easy. Then be sure you shope insurance coverage among various companies–Geico tends to have cheap coverage–to get lowest cost insurance. If you own a home, you can do that same idea by looking for a bargain house. With the depressed market this is a great time to buy a fixer upper well below market to reduce your housing expenses asap. Sell your current home at market rate. If you rent, you need to own because you reduce your expenses by deducting the payment from your taxes. If your credit score is above 500 you should be able to get a loan or find a lender who can help you get your credit score up. By the way, better to buy one of those well used cars with a loan to reduce your car expenses. In general you need to become a serious bargain buyer on quality cars and on houses. You can find bargain houses on the HUD website of foreclousres using a realtor. Just be sure to bid way low on HUD foreclosures–realtors will suggest you bid too high. Be cheap, cheap, cheap and you will reduce your monthly expenses on these things.

One other point, if you find yourself overspending on consumer stuff you buy, you need to get self control. Best way to do this is not a budget but fasting. Start skipping a meal and then work up to where you skip food one day per week. I fast a day a week regularly and am unbelievalbe disciplined. I must be because I provide for a family of 6: with 5 older girls, two in college, etc. Talk about expensive! But I never buy anything in a store on impulse because fasting has trained me to be way disciplined.

Source(s):
KBB.com used car values
Zillow.com home values. Multiply the value they give you by 1.15 and you will be close o market value. Also look at comparable sales on that web site for a per square foot value to apply to the home you are considering. Watch out with realtors. They tend to push you to pay too much but you must use a realtor to buy a HUD foreclosure. You can shop other bargain houses with motivate

http://www.givecash.li/

There are plenty of good books, check Amazon and read the reviews. You can also take a community class at your local high school or college.

Eye On Green » Blog Archive » 10 Ways to Save Money on Gas

Want to save up to 20% or more on the cost of gas?  Follow these 10 simple tips!

1.  Check your air filter.

Nearly one in four cars needs an air filter replacement. A clean air filter can improve gas mileage by as much as 10%.

Cost Savings: 20 cents a gallon*.

* Cost estimates in this feature are based on $2-a-gallon gas, and assume that the car goes from the worst possible condition to the best.

2. Straighten up.

Poor alignment not only causes tires to wear out more quickly, but also forces your engine to work harder. Align your tires, and save up to 10%.

Cost Savings: 20 cents per gallon.

3.  Tune up.

When was your last tune up? A properly maintained engine can improve mileage by up to 4%.

Cost Savings: 8 cents a gallon.

4.  Pump ‘em up.

More than one-quarter of vehicles are driving on deflated tires. The average under-inflation of 7.5 pounds causes a loss of 2.8% in fuel efficiency.

Cost Savings: 6 cents per gallon.

5.  Check your gas cap.

Believe it or not, it’s been estimated that nearly 17% of cars on the road have broken or missing gas caps. What’s the big deal? Escaping fumes not only hurt fuel economy but release smog-causing compounds into the air. Avoid air pollution and improving fuel mileage is as easy as replacing a bad gas cap.

Cost Savings: 1 cent per gallon.

 6.  Slow down.

For every 5 mph you reduce highway speed, you can reduce fuel consumption by 7%.

Cost Savings: 14 cents (by reducing speed from 70 mph to 65 mph).

 7.  Drive more smoothly.

Avoiding jack-rabbit starts and stops, and herky-jerky driving will improve fuel economy. Don’t believe it? Lousy driving on the highway can add as much as one-third to your gas bill.

Cost Savings: 66 cents a gallon.

8.  Lay off the brakes.

Riding with your foot on the brake pedal will not only wear out brake pads (which will cost you at the maintenance shop) but can also increase gas consumption by as much as 35%.

Cost Savings: 70 cents per gallon.

9.  Lighten up.

For every 100 extra pounds carried around, your vehicle loses 1 to 2% in fuel efficiency. Don’t drive around with too much junk in the trunk.

Cost Savings: 3 cents per gallon (assuming 100 pounds of weight removed).

 10.  Don’t idle.

Besides causing pollution, idling wastes gas. If stopped for more than 30 seconds, turn off the engine, and don’t bother to “warm up” your car before driving — it is not necessary.

Cost Savings: 1 cent per gallon, for every three minutes you avoid idling.
