So, other than using coupons, how can you save money on groceries?? Don’t Waste!! I used to be so bad about throwing out leftovers, but not anymore. Once I discovered how much money I was wasting by throwing them out, I was shocked.

Now, when we have leftover food I find a way to make it into another meal. For instance, we had baked chicken one night, and had a couple of pieces left over. It was not enough to have the same thing the next night, but there was still a good bit. I took the bones out of the chicken and chopped it up, make some BBQ gravy and cooked rice along with a vegetable and rolls. Instead of the meat being the main focus of the meal, it was more like a side dish, but it was good. The best part was, we did not waste it!!

There are tons of options for leftovers, you just have to get a little creative sometimes.

If you’re lucky enough to live within walking/cycling distance to work, leave your car at home. If walking to work saves you GBP20 per week – that’s a yearly saving of about a grand, not to mention the savings on repair bills and depreciation of your motor.

6) Cut back on the booze. A few drinks down at the pub is commonplace for most people but when you actually add up the cost it can quickly sober you up. In some areas a single pint of beer is pushing GBP5, which is absolute robbery. Disappointment aside, you are potentially looking at a round of 4 drinks costing the best part of GBP20. If you are really strapped for cash but still find the money to go down the boozer, give it a rest for a few months. You could save upwards of GBP50 per night and your liver would certainly thank you as well.

7) Budget your paycheck. As tempting as it is to go mad on payday and buy all the items on your Amazon wish list, you should be much shrewder. You should plan for all you upcoming expenditure to ensure you experience no shortfalls midway through the month. I've heard from multiple sources that coupons don't actually save you any money. Apparently it's a big debate between coupon fanatics and their opponents. Some people claim it saves them a ton of money but these are the kind of people who buy name brand stuff all the time. If you only want name brand items then yes it will probably save you money but only because it is knocking the price down to what normal stuff costs.

Well I tried using coupons and my local grocery stores like Publix and Walmart wouldn't take them. I used coupon surfer.com and there were allot of pop ups and filled my computer with allot of garbage.

I only do the ones, that are affiliated with known stores and restaurants I like. I sign up for like Sears.com and Target.com and tgiffridays.com dennys.com and when they send emails, if the offers are good enough I use them. Many stores will not allow online coupons anymore, they get ripped off too much with fraudulent ones. So sign up for all the stores and restaurants that you like, and eventually you will get your free birthday coupon, and other offers.

I save about $85 a month with online coupons.

Is it really worth the savings? My dad turns is down to 66 at night but i find it freezing cold. I sleep in the basement and im sure its alot colder down here. I am a shopaholic!!! Look at how much money you make, decide how much you want to say, and put aside a certain amount of money every month to shop with…only spend that much money and see how much you can get for it.

when you look at it, you should think what do you have to match it. If you have nothing then don't buy it.

MANCHESTER – After asking city department heads to whittle down the number of employees taking home city vehicles, Mayor Ted Gatsas slashed the number further yesterday.

The number of take-home vehicles shrank from 51 to 43 after Gatsas last month asked department heads to look at every vehicle, how often it was being used during overnight hours and whether taking it home was absolutely necessary. Gatsas told them yesterday he didn’t think the cuts went far enough and reduced the take-home fleet to 19.

"My expectation was 19 (vehicles). I was hoping they would do it," said Gatsas.

He especially took issue with on-call staffers taking vehicles home every night.

"There’s no reason why six people on call on a rotating basis need to take a vehicle home on a night they’re not on call," said Gatsas.

Fire Department Chief James Burkush said although his department was listed as having eight take-home vehicles, not all of them went home with employees every night. The department’s inspectors and mechanics, who would rotate nights they would respond to emergencies, were taking their vehicles home only on nights they were on call, Burkush said.

Gatsas cut the number of take-home vehicles in the Fire Department to four, but Burkush said this would not cause any major change.

Those employees who will continue to take home a vehicle include Burkush, the dog handler and Fire Department mechanics, who are on call in case a fire truck breaks down after hours. As for the other employees, Burkush said, they will drive to the station, pick up the city vehicle they need and respond to a call from there.

According to the mayor’s office, sharing on-call take-home vehicles will also become policy at Water Works.

Gatsas said it’s hard to calculate how much money will be saved, but fewer vehicles going home means using less city gas and less wear and tear on city vehicles.

The Highway Department also saw big cuts, going from seven take-home vehicles to two.

Public Works Director Kevin Sheppard said most take-home vehicles have been for responding to off-hours emergencies, such as a water main break that damages a road. In such a case, an inspector would be called in to make sure the road was repaired properly.

"People will just have to come into the yard to get their city vehicle when they get called in," said Sheppard. "It may delay response some, but I don’t think it will be a problem at this time."

As for more urgent emergencies, such as a sinkhole in a city street, the street superintendent would need a take-home vehicle to respond quickly, Sheppard said.

"We feel that’s important because he could be called in at all hours," he said.
