How can people save alot of money using coupons?

I have been reading people's answers on here and many say they save alot of money at the store using coupons. How is that? I can never find any coupons for the things that I buy.

Look in the Sunday paper or slickdeals.net (forums)

Let's take a can of soda as an example. Suppose you drink a can of soda everyday. the price is $1. The coupon says '50% off'. You only need to pay $.0.5. since you drink soda everyday, using coupons for a week can save $3.5 . Little coupons and coupons with low discount can't save you much money, but if you keep using them for a long period of time, eventually you can save quite a lot of money.
Not all stores have coupons to offer, mostly they're just supermarkets and convenient stores. but sometimes i find coupons in magazines like seventeen and cosmo girl, you can get a discount when purchasing clothing =)

buy something you don't want or need but can use a coupon on.

when you buy items like groceries and you have coupons for discounts, you get to pay the discounted price rather than the full price of the items you bought. this will help you save a lot of money especially when you're on a tight budget.

Start with the sunday paper and try a site like coolsavings.com , do not use coupons for things you are not going to use, also check for stores that double coupons/

How are you saving money during this economic crunch?

With high gas prices, and the bad economy. What have you been doing to save money? I need help findings ways to save, if not make more money. I am a full time college student with a part time job, and no time to get another job. Any ideas on saving money and/or making more?

Selling things and finding odd jobs (including advertising for free, my own services like seamstress, tailoring, tutoring) on craigslist, buying essentials online using websites like mypoints.com and always finding the best price before we buy, we pre-shop online to know the cheapest place to go and order stuff to be sent directly to the store so there's no shipping charges (walmart, sears, etc.). Buying groceries in bulk and packaging in smaller units to freeze (i.e., hamburger), waiting for things to go on clearance if we don't absolutely need them. Small things too-turning off lights, limiting use of AC, washing only full loads of laundry, no more car washes, not using our hottub, walking/biking for smaller trips.

My biggest way to save is by not eating out (everyday like I was) & not getting coffee everyday from coffee shop. I have also been making more of an effort to not drive so much and planning trips of several errands instead of making several trips to do what I need to do.

I started looking for part time jobs or things around the house I could do, then I came across this easy way of making money. All you need to do is get this window decal and put it on your car and start earning money.
http://www.eyeearn.com/10214044

hello – look carefully at what you spend and how you spend it. do you have to have a starbucks coffee? or two cokes a day? etc. if you even cut back on those types of things a few times a week you will save money.

use the library if possible instead of buying book.

make sure you have the right cell phone bill plan and that it costs as little as possible.

stop and think every time you pull out your wallet – whats it for, do you really need it etc. and if you use credit cards (and you should consider only using cash) make sure you are not paying interest. Personally i have found my clients (i work with people on their finances) who are most successful live without using credit cards for 3-6 months to be clear on where tier money is going. It can really help you save money if you know where your money is going.

good luck.

How do you save money with coupons? where do you get the coupons you need?

Hi i know that there are people out there that get groceries almost free because they use coupons. I am wondering how do you do this.. how do you get coupons for the items that you are in need of? is there so tricks to the trade that i can learn? also is there a website that you use?

Check your local newspaper on Sundays…there are TONS of coupons for you to clip. Also, research the grocery stores around you…some of them double coupons! (A coupon for 50 cents off instead takes $1 off.) For example, Giant Eagle grocery stores in the Pittsburgh area do this.

email me and I will put you onto a site that gives you free gift certificates I have received over $400.00 since I started

Absolutely FREE

.

.

.

.

It would take a lot of work to use enough coupons to not pay for groceries, but you can shop at places that double them. But when I did that, I ended up buying things I really didn't need just because. You can get them in the Sunday paper.

Sure it will save you some money using coupons but takes lots of discipline to make sure you don't ended up with a bunch of stuff you don't need.

You time might be better spend to find a job.

Best wishes.

The Sunday paper is probably your best source. By the way, if you want to know a way to get money back every time you shop at Ebay and over 120 online stores, then send me an email.

buy the sunday newspaper — it always have a bunch of coupons in it — be careful when using coupons — let say they have a brand name product with a coupon worth 35 cents but it could be 40 cents higher than the store brand.. also do not buy a product that you have a coupon for that you really will not use,

TheGroceryGame.com has a list of grocery coupons…you can print only the ones your want. BTW you do not have to join to print the coupons. :)

We only use coupons for items we regularly buy unless it is a full-price coupon, which makes it free.

We use coupons for all of our shopping. However, we rarely use online coupons because the newspaper coupons are much more valuable. For example, why use a 25-cent coupon online when the newspaper has a 75-cent coupon for the same item?

Here's my best advice:

1. Invest in 1-2 Sunday newspapers and clip out the coupons.

2. For the coupons you use most often, go to eBay, where you can purchase extras at a very reasonable price. We usually pay no more than $1-$3 for 10-20 coupons, including shipping (a first-class stamp and #10 envelope).

Here's a direct link to the listings: http://health-beauty.listings.ebay.com/C…

3. If you want to go online, here's a couple web sites we do frequent for product news, trials, recipes and, occasionally, a coupon:

http://www.pg.com/en_US/products/index.j…

http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf?e=email

We've had the best luck online filling out company surveys. The company, in turn, sends us a product trial or a coupon for the full price of the product. (Last week, we received a coupon for a box of Capri Sun drinks, a $3.50 value.)

Email me if you need more help.

The Fergus Falls Daily Journal

Published 05:47 p.m., July 27, 2010

The grand opening of Fergus Falls’ Walmart Supercenter is only a week away, and store manager Tim Bosworth is excited. A veteran of the company who has worked in the Fergus Falls location for several years, Bosworth said that the changes and expansions in the local store will allow for more variety for customers and a selection based on people’s needs.

“We’re on pace, on time and excited to open next Wednesday morning,” Bosworth said. Though the past several months have seen the store shuffle, move and reorganize its inventory, everything is now in its proper place — except for the “fresh department,” which customers will be able to access for the first time at 8 a.m. on Aug. 4, just after the 7:30 opening celebration. The fresh department will boast fresh produce, seafood and meat, as well as a deli and a bakery.

But fresh food isn’t the only thing new to the store. The inside front of the store will soon be home to an arcade, a hair salon, and Walmart Wireless, a company-owned phone store. The electronics department has doubled in size, and many of the selections in other sections of the store have been adjusted based on studies of the area population’s needs and wants.

The store is also more convenient in more ways than one.Bosworth explains that customers are already responding well to the convenience of shopping for groceries right along with other goods. He also said the layout of the store was designed to put all consumable products — groceries, pharmaceuticals, hygiene products and more — in the same basic area. “(Customers) can make one convenient stop on our market side,” he said.

One of the most noticeable additions to Walmart is its extensive grocery wing, featuring many aisles of canned, boxed, refrigerated and frozen goods in addition to the fresh department. “This week, traffic has been picking up,” said Bosworth, and the nearly complete grocery section is a big part of that. Store traffic is up 7 percent from the same time last year.

“We expect customer traffic to continue to increase, and it should also increase for other area businesses,” said Bosworth.

Fergus Falls resident Jennifer Herzberg said there were three words for why she buys from Walmart. “One-stop shop,” she said. On Tuesday afternoon, she browsed the grocery section for food for her and her kids before heading to another part of the store to buy back-to-school supplies. She likes that she can buy for her whole family in one place.

Cliff Sackett, who lives only two miles from the store, likes the extra money he can save when he shops. “It’s reasonable and cheaper (here),” he said.

It’s clear that Bosworth is pleased with many aspects of the new additions to the store, from the improved layout to specialized food sections (like gluten-free products) to the fresh department’s fail-safe power generator. But one of the most exciting things his Walmart has brought in is jobs.

In December of 2009, Bosworth said, 140 people were employed at the store. “We’ll be at 300 by the end of the week,” he explained.

With the expansion of the grocery section, Walmart will be put in competition with Fergus Falls’ two other grocery stores, Service Food and Sunmart. Gary Spies, owner of Service Foods, isn’t worried.

“If you’re going to have another grocery store … some (customers) will have to come from Service Food,” he acknowledged. However, Spies explained, he believes Service Food’s downtown location and community involvement are and will be factors in the grocery’s ongoing success.

“Service Food was here in 1938, and I think it will be here in 2038,” he said. “I think the community’s been good to us, and I think we’ve been good to the community.”

Spies added that he is holding off on possible changes to Service Food’s business plan or structure until he knows for sure how the store will be affected.

Brian Numainville, the senior director of research and public relations at Nash Finch, Sunmart’s parent company, could not be reached for comment.

Spies, as well as Bosworth and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Workman, also posited that Walmart will draw many of their customers from outside of the community rather than from the existing marketplace. And when there’s an influx of people into the city, said Workman, it’s likely they’ll be making more than one stop. “It will be a positive impact for the community overall,” she said.

Bosworth also believes that putting a supercenter in Fergus Falls will tempt city and area residents who currently shop at Walmart Supercenters in Detroit Lakes, Alexandria, Wadena, Dilworth or Wahpeton. “Now we have the ability … to keep that customer in Fergus Falls,” he said.

While Workman said that some businesses will need to make or already have made adjustments in order to operate smoothly with a Walmart Supercenter in town, she said that the store has been and will continue to be a community asset. “Walmart has been a great chamber member,” she said, adding that “the fact that we’re adding jobs in a down economy is huge.”

“Competition makes us all stronger,” she concluded.

The 7:30 a.m. ceremony will include a ribbon cutting and a recognition of the 16 current store employees who were working at the Walmart when it opened in 1991.

Bosworth offered his thanks to the community for helping to make the expansion possible. “I really have appreciated the support of the city and the patience of the customers as we went through a radical remodel,” he said.

How can a family of 5 save money shopping at the supermarket?

How can a family of 5 save money shopping at the supermarket?

My family finds ourselves going to the market at least 4 times a week. We spend over $30.00 each time we make a trip. It get's very expensive and on a seperate issue there are never any leftovers. My grandmother moved in with us a few years ago and she has a tremendous appetite. She eats about every 4 hours and it is hardly ever just a little snack. Sadly she has pretty much gone bankrupt due to a spending issue and gives us no money for groceries or the upkeep of the house. My parent's make a little over $50,000 a year. Please help as the expenses of other neccessities are going up and we need a way to save money.

You are going to need to buy in the large bulk sizes and buy the off name itemsstore brands.

$30 per visit would be nice. I get in trouble as I spend $50 when I go. Sounds like you are doing something right.

Cook a lot of hamburger helper, ham and beans and spaghetti. These things tend to go farther than other things. Granny isn't eating that much. In my opinion to break the bank.

Go to the grocery once per week only. When the groceries are out, then they are out. Don't go back to buy more groceries until your 7th day and the week has passed. After a couple of weeks of running out of groceries, then you will adjust.

Try to stop asking your parents for things you dont need. Try and spend your own money on things like that. Give your parents the idea of setting a budget for your shopping trips. Drink more water and less expensive drinks. Use coupons whenever possible. I hope this helps!

when shopping-open bags of food, eat it and dump bags before check out.

You have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T. What kind of cutbacks can you make? For example: I drink bottled water. Now at $1 a bottle on something that covers over 65% of our planet is not smart. So I bought one of those water filters that screw into your faucet. I have bottles that I refil over and over again. I take them to work. Do you have a lot of small appliances around that house that are always on? I cut my electronic bill almost in half by unplugging all the clock radios and night lights. I also bought some of those florescent bulbs that look a lot like a regular bulb. These things use 80% less electricity than regular bulbs. You would be surprised, but these small things add up. I know I was spending money on the water filter and energy efficient bulbs but these things will pay for themselves in a month providing they pertain to you. If you really need the money right away start cutting back on your food costs. Romain noodles cost a dime and they taste just as good as campbells chicken noodle that costs $130 a can. Ok no chicken in romain noodles, but you are probably just missing about 4 tiny pieces of chicken. Put a brick inside your toilet 'chamber'. You will use a little lesser water each time you flush..Before you know it you will be ahead. And remember you have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T! Yours truly seahorsehawrey.

Personal Finance: Tips for Reducing Expenses and Regaining Control of Your Money

Have you lost control over personal finance? Do you find yourself reaching for credit cards to pay for daily living expenses? Are debt collectors hounding you day and night? If you have more month than money, it is time to engage in financial soul searching. Regaining control over personal finance is rewarding and empowering. Regardless of the severity of your financial situation realize there is always a solution. In order to be successful, you must be willing to thoroughly review where you are spending money and where expenses can be reduced. Many people become overwhelmed by the thought of making a household budget. Budgeting is really quite simple to do and only requires an hour or two of your time. The first step involves making a list of recurring expenses such as mortgage payments or rent, car payments, utilities, insurance premiums, cell phone, gasoline or transportation costs, groceries and daycare. The second step of budgeting involves tallying up your total household income and subtracting expenses. If expenses are higher than income, it is time to make budget cuts or find ways to increase monthly income. The gorgeous thing about budgeting is it doesn’t cost a dime. All you need is a piece of paper and pencil, along with a commitment to become hyper-aware of spending activities and determination to stick to the financial plot. Some people prefer to use budgeting software or make spreadsheets to help them track expenses. Others utilize budgeting tools offered through their bank or credit card provider. It does not matter which method is used. But, it is best to choose a method which you can easily use on a daily basis. Many people do not realize they can slash expenses by making phone calls to service providers. Most utility providers offer monthly budget plans which allow consumers to pay the same amount each month. Enrolling in utility budget plans can be especially beneficial during summer and winter months when utility costs can soar. Gas, electric and water utilities often offer budget plot enrollment via their website; making it simple for consumers to enroll during non-business hours. Consumers can sometimes negotiate the cost of cable and internet services by contacting their service provider. Consumers should spend time conducting research to determine competitor prices. Be certain to compare rates for individual services and bundled packages and make note of each. Contact your service provider by phone and clarify that their competitor offers a reduced rate over the package you are currently subscribed to. Most cable and internet providers offer discounts to new subscribers and those who bundle two or more services, such as phone, internet service and digital TV. Cable providers will often reduce monthly service fees to retain your business. If they aren’t willing to provide a discount, consider switching to reduced price plot or obtain service through a different provider. One of the largest expenses many families have is groceries. If you have never used manufacturer coupons, now is the time to start. The Internet provides simple access to grocery coupons which can be printed in the comfort of your home. Several websites are dedicated to providing coupons and most food purveyors offer coupons and rebates via company websites. The only way to get out of debt is to track every penny being spent. Take time to record expenses on a piece of paper so you can quickly determine which items are draining your bank account. Most people are unaware of how much money they waste on unnecessary items. If debts have spiraled out of control and you rely on credit cards to get you through the month, consider obtaining credit counseling. Many credit counseling agencies provide low- or no-cost services to help consumers regain control of personal finance. Credit counseling can take place in person, over the phone or online.

30 Days, 30 Ways to Save: Use Coupons

Here I am at Day 25 of my 30 Days, 30 Ways to save series and I haven’t even discussed using coupons! I guess it is because I am hopeful that you are already using them.  You are using them, right? If not, shame on you (I say this is jest).
I must admit that I am miffed at people who don’t use them. Believe me, I have heard all sorts of excuses for why my friends don’t use them…..everything from “I don’t have time to clip coupons” to “I will cut them & then forget to use them.”  And yes, I am aware that coupons are a huge marketing ploy to get you to buy X brand’s products. Regardless, I still feel that if you are throwing away coupons, you are in essence tossing money in the trash!
Coupons, when used right, can save you BIG on groceries and toiletries!  You can even get some products for FREE if you work the deals the right way!

So, where to start? Here is the most basic way to begin using coupons:

  • Get the ad to your local grocery/drug store and circle the items you usually buy that are on sale. Make a list of these items.
  • Look for coupons to match those items on your list. You can find many coupons in the Sunday inserts, but there are also other coupon sources. Find a list of coupon sources HERE.
  • Do a online search for “[insert GROCERY STORE] match ups ” to find a Blogger who already has a list of deals going on at your store to get ideas on how to work that store’s deals. You can find a huge list of Grocery Store match ups HERE.

These, of course, are just the basics of couponing. Head over to my Couponing 101 series to read more about how to get the most out of your coupons!
