Would turning down the thermostat help save money on the gas meter?

Its getting quiet cold now and nearly all the time we have the central heating on. When I set out for school, would I be saving Gas by turning the thermostat off on my radiator because it will be heating a room when there is no one in.

Definitely. I keep my thermostat down low when I am away at work or sleeping. I also close vents in unused rooms and close the door to that room as well. It will save you a lot more than you think.

There are plenty of other ideas that will save you money. You can find more by getting a free account at the5gplan.com. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

Good luck!

Should I buy my college textbooks or should I photocopy them?

Should I buy my college textbooks or should I photocopy them?

Ok I know that many people are going to be bragging about the writer's rights and that's it's illegal blah blah, but right now my country is in a difficult economic situation and the last thing I can do right now is spend hundreds on textbooks.

I'll buy the books if I find them for cheap on the net. Last semester I was too lucky to find brand new books originally worth hundreds of books for 10-20 dollars, but seems that this time I am not going to be lucky.

I have photocopied books before and saved tons of money, but is hectic being every week in the photocopier's library photocopying tons of pages when having other people waiting in line behind me. I like having my books with me for instant reference and to avoid this, but the books from my biology concentration are very expensive.

Ha I even sold a book original worth hundreds of bucks which I found for 10 bucks online for a higher price (bellow 100). That's how business should be.

What would you do in my situation?

Go to community college or some on-line sham. If saving a few dollars is more important than the value of the books and education, go to the cheapest school you can find.

if i were you i would try to find an electronic copy of the book online for free but this may also be difficult in puerto rico

I would try finding books online. You can also buy a book, use it very gently, and try to sell it back online. In my college days, I also borrowed copies of books from college libraries. Even if it was a few editions old, most times that didn't matter much. Good luck!

www.amazon.com is always the cheapest I heard. Do what you have to do though. Books are too damn expensive!! I have actually kept mine for my major because I go back to them every once in awhile. If I didn't have the money and was able to get them for free somehow or cheaper…I'd do it.

Instead of buying from the college bookstores, try online like at Amazon.com or Ebay.com, or even another site. I've always been able to save at least $20-50 or more on books as long as I could find them online.

What are some of the easiest ways to save money?

You might want to read the book the Wealthy Barber. The author recommends putting 10% of your earnings in a savings account – pay yourself first. So, open a savings account and start putting some money away each payday.

save 20 dollars every pay check

Two verbs are almost one: going out and spending. 1) Stay at home as much as you can and avoid temptation. 2) Be stingy, don´t buy anything unless you really have to and then think about it twice. 3) Look for bargains and special offers, buy wholesale. 4) You actually save by using half of things; p.e. is toothpaste cost $3 it will come down to only $1.50 by using half the normal amount each time. Then place all amounts saved immediately in your bank account.

Watching what you spend, cut back all unnecessary spending, good luck.

What is the best car to buy that is cheap on insurance, tax and petrol?

What is the best car to buy that is cheap on insurance, tax and petrol?

I currently have a sport ka which I adore, and I can afford, however I'm stuck in a dead end job and living at home and reducing my cost on my car is the only thing I can think to do to allow me to save money for eventually getting my own place.

I was just going to sell my car and make do without but I want to look into getting something a bit cheaper to run and insure.

I could get around £3k for my car (hopefully) so I wouldnt want to spend much more than that on the new car. I pay approx £170 on tax per year and roughly £500 insurance a year (I'm only 20, nearly 21 so my insurance is inevitably higher!)

Any ideas?

Nissan Micra, not flashy' but a dependable little car.
I work at the biggest Auction cars,
very sort out' for reliability.
cheap tax, and good on petrol.

ive just bought a megane and its very good on deisel i only pay £35 a tear roed tax as the road tax is now based on co2 emissions some of these small smart cars are road tax free good luck

Go for a Micra, not the best looking of cars but they are very cheap to run and insure.
Ja.

Hi, the best car i would recommend is Nissan Micra 1.0litre.

You can get a decent one for around £1,000 to £1,500.

These are very cheap on fuel and insurance and are very durable cars.

I would also recommend this to anyone just passing their driving tests or a young driver that is looking for a cheap but also reliable car.

You can get one from this website – http://www.auctionsmadesimple.co.uk

There are different cars there, so you have to click on the nissan brand and type in micra in the search box at the top to get the ones ending soon.

Good Luck!

I wish my suggestion could be useful. And here http://www.Autoinsurancepro.info/auto-insurance-free.htm is information which I used a lot.Check it out.

Where do you think the best place to sell/trade my xbox 360 elite for the most money?

Where do you think the best place to sell/trade my xbox 360 elite for the most money?

i want to get the new xbox slim i have about £50 gamesation vouchers and £270 cash but im saving up for a gaming computer which is about £800 where do you think is the best deal

You probably won't get the most money from a retail game shop but at least it'd be firm, cash versus possible eBay scam (eg. I will pay you the price you ask plus 100 more, send me the difference minus your shipping fees, etc).

Otherwise, patience will pay off if you manage to sell it at school or in the neighborhood and get paid in CASH (no checks / vouchers / money grams / etc)

Good Luck

Best way to save on groceries and other expenses?

With the prices on groceries etc rising lately it got me to wondering what was the best way to save money. Any ideas such as coupons and where to find the coupons or off brand products that are just as good as the original or any other ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

sunday paper coupon and free sample sites

you can go in the newspaper and clip coupons… also you can go in the stores sale paper …o and if u shop @ publix ther is coupons in the store too.. good luck

I use www.thegrocerygame.com

Read the message boards to get a feel of it, I joined in May and I am just now getting the hang of it.

You never know! Give it a shot, the have a 1 month trial for $1, I think it was worth it.

Stocking up when items are on sale.

Buying store branded products instead of national brands.

Meat that has been marked down. It may be a few days old but is still good.

Learn to prepare foods from scratch. Learn to prepare a meal and make additional meals from the left overs. Avoid prepared or heat and eat items. They're horribly over priced.

Can you someone tell me whats the difference between a money market account and a savings account?

Can you someone tell me whats the difference between a money market account and a savings account?

I plan on savings between 1-5 years maybe longer and initially depositing $4,000. How much will i earn yearly , monthly etc. And what is a reliable source to look up rates?

A savings account normally does not allow you to draw checks against it. With a money market account you can do a limited number of transactions at most banks, at some brokerage firms the transactions are unlimited.

At a bank the money market account is often covered by FDIC insurance. At a brokerage firm it is not. There was a scare last year and one money fund 'broke the buck' and the investors were paid about 97 cents on the dollar of their investment. It has been the first such breakage in about 15 years.

If you plan to save for 1 to 15 years and you need insurance on the funds look into laddering CD's. With rates at historical lows, it probably is not wise to go out much further than 3 years. You also can look into ultra short bond funds and preferred stock funds.

Most banks and brokerages post their rates online. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/rate/mmmf_ho… can give you some specifics.

Good luck!

Please help me find a good savings or money market account?

One that is reasonable, possible online, an initial deposit of under 300, and no monthley fees-compound rate does not matter-thank you-KonstantinO

Try going to Bankrate.com, they usually update the current rates on savings and money market accounts.

I am sure you are aware but, typically speaking, savings accounts and money accounts do tend to have minimum deposit which you need to open and also need to maintain while they are open.

But, other than that info. try the site, I always use it to find rates and what not. I know you are looking for savings account/mma but maybe it will help ya. Good luck

I use Paypal's money market account.
I like it because its digital money, I never touched the money and never did any physical work other than touching my keyboard and mouse.
So its like a game, lol, and the money is just growing in there.

Mutual Funds: Mutual funds are groups of investments that gather money from many investors and use the money to purchase stocks, bonds, and other investments. Mutual funds are generally handled by a certified professional, as against stocks that are managed by the private individual. Basically, mutual funds include various types of stocks.
