I always found the best price on half.com. It's owned by Ebay, but there is no bidding on books. If you look carefully you can get a great deal on used books. As long as the book is not discontinued, you can usually get back most of the money you paid for it by selling it on half.com.

Umm… wrong section. Try education and reference. But to answer, I have never heard of textbook rentals outside of renting from the local library. Amazon and ebay have good prices on books.

Hi i know that there are people out there that get groceries almost free because they use coupons. I am wondering how do you do this.. how do you get coupons for the items that you are in need of? is there so tricks to the trade that i can learn? also is there a website that you use?

Check your local newspaper on Sundays…there are TONS of coupons for you to clip. Also, research the grocery stores around you…some of them double coupons! (A coupon for 50 cents off instead takes $1 off.) For example, Giant Eagle grocery stores in the Pittsburgh area do this.

It would take a lot of work to use enough coupons to not pay for groceries, but you can shop at places that double them. But when I did that, I ended up buying things I really didn't need just because. You can get them in the Sunday paper.

Sure it will save you some money using coupons but takes lots of discipline to make sure you don't ended up with a bunch of stuff you don't need.

You time might be better spend to find a job.

buy the sunday newspaper — it always have a bunch of coupons in it — be careful when using coupons — let say they have a brand name product with a coupon worth 35 cents but it could be 40 cents higher than the store brand.. also do not buy a product that you have a coupon for that you really will not use,

We only use coupons for items we regularly buy unless it is a full-price coupon, which makes it free.

We use coupons for all of our shopping. However, we rarely use online coupons because the newspaper coupons are much more valuable. For example, why use a 25-cent coupon online when the newspaper has a 75-cent coupon for the same item?

Here's my best advice:

1. Invest in 1-2 Sunday newspapers and clip out the coupons.

2. For the coupons you use most often, go to eBay, where you can purchase extras at a very reasonable price. We usually pay no more than $1-$3 for 10-20 coupons, including shipping (a first-class stamp and #10 envelope).

They honestly believe that all these things are needs, to me the need is to pay your mortgage, only AFTER paying that do you look at what is left and then prioritize. For example after all their bills are paid they may have $270 left which will not cover all their luxuries like cable, cell phones. Instead they have to say, with the $270 we have left what are the priorities, that might be one extra curricular activity for each child and basic second hand clothing from ebay. I will never believe the gym [for non-medical reasons], theme park passes, cell phones and cable tv are needs.

87. Be radical. I have been living on £500 a month, this allowed me to donate hundreds of pounds worth of supplies to children in desperate situations, give more to Haiti, sponsor children, save a bit, pay for room costs abroad for 3 weeks. It was only possible because I focused on my needs not my wants. My colleagues who bring home the same pay package as me, many of whom pay no rent or have two incomes have less left at the end of the month than I do. All admit spending more than £150 a week on stuff, eating out, lunch, the cinema, drinks, pub lunches, weekends away etc.

Lay all your clothes, belts, underwear, shoes and jewelry out on your bed and just open your eyes and really see how much you have.  I have no more than 7 outfits (reusing some things)  in total and I even feel that is a lot. So many of my friends constantly talk about how they need more clothes and I look in their wardrobes and am just in awe at all that they have.  There are hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of clothing, shoes and jewelry. Get perspective & admit what you’ve already spent and you’ll stop feeling the urge to spend more (hopefully!).

look in the paper for second hand furniture, or look on ebay…some of it is still pretty good

as for bills? don't leave televisions, computers etc on when you aren't using them, or lights on when you are out of the house

Yahoo has these great groups you can join. One is called Cheapcycle and the other is called Freecycle. You just locate the largest city closest to you and join that group. You can place "wanted" ads, and people who have those items that you need will respond. And you can also view the "offer" ads that people have posted. Also, if interested in painting walls, you can check places like Lowes, Sears and Home Depot. Often they are refered to as "Oops Paint" or "Mistake Paint". These are paints that either the employee mixed incorrectly or the customer returned after trying it, and did not like it. These paints are sold at a discounted rate… sometimes 50% or more off! i just moved into my first place about a month ago, when i got my first electric bill it was $17.33!!! If you dont know, thats the best electric bill you can get. Heres what i did, dont use the a.c. (i know it sucks but fall is right around the corner and its not that hot anymore) also if your not using something, UNPLUG IT! Even if your computer for instance isnt on, it is still sucking power out from the wall, true for every other appliance! And as the other guy said, take what you can get, ask family members, i furnished almost my entire 1100 sq ft apartment by getting hand me downs from the fam, it looks ok too!!
